چکیده

A method for total calcium in serum was optimized, a dual double-beam atomic absorption spectrophotometer being used, with strontium as an internal reference. The effect of HCI and lanthanum concentrations on the signals of both calcium and strontium was determined. The final analysis was unaffected by known sources of interference in serum at a 50-fold dilution of serum in 50mmolar HCI containing 10mmol LaCI3and 0.12 mmol of SrCI2 per liter. Within-run precision for 30 replicate analyses performed during 30 mm gave a relative standard deviation (RSD) of 0.36% for the internal strontium reference mode vs. 0.72% RSD for the single-channel mode. Nine consecutive multiconcentration control pools were measured repeatedly for two years; the median RSD was 2.3%. With meticulous technique, long.term variability for total calcium in serum approached 1%. Accuracy is believed to be limited only by the precision, since systematic bias was not detected from recovery studies and comparisons with results of ashing procedures or oxalate precipitation techniques.

Comparison of serum calcium measurements obtained with the SMA 12-60 and by atomic absorption spectrophotometry.

Comparable results are obtained when serum calcium is measured by a colorimetric cresolpthalein method on the Technicon SMA 12/60 and by atomic absorption spectrophotometry (Instrumentation Laboratory Model 153 instrument), with strontium as an internal standard. Sera from 250 patients with abnormal calcium concentrations, ranging from 4.9 mg/lOU ml to 9.0 mg/100 ml, were measured by each metho...

Application of Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry in the Determination of Calcium in Serum.

Atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS) was applied to the determination of serum calcium. A special diluent was developed to abolish the effect of absorption depressors. This made possible measurement of calcium in directly diluted serum samples without prior removal of any serum constituents. Values obtained by AAS on calcium oxalate precipitates from serum were identical with those found b...

Normal serum calcium levels by atomic absorption spectroscopy.

THE INITIAL STUDIES BY WILLIS (2, 3) and the more recent work of Zettner and Seligson (i) and others (4-7, 9-11) have proven the utility of atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS) in the clinical laboratory. However, until very recently there has been very little if any published information dealing with normal serum calcium values by atomic absorption spectrophotometry (11). The primary purp...

Comparison of atomic absorption spectrophotometry and fluorometry for the measurement of serum calcium.

An atomic absorption spectrophotometric (AAS) and a fluorometric method for the measurement of serum calcium were found to be corn-parablein acceptable reproducibility. The recovery figures obtained by the fluorornetric procedure were considerably lower than those given by AAS in the 2-4 mEq./L. range, although recoveriesat higher levels (6 mEq./L.) were acceptable. The average recovery for the...

Estimation of calcium and magnesium in serum and urine by atomic absorption spectrophotometry.

A method has been described for the estimation of calcium and magnesium in serum and urine using atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The precision and accuracy of the techniques have been determined and were found to be acceptable. THE RANGE OF VALUES FOR CALCIUM AND MAGNESIUM IN THE SERA OF NORMAL ADULTS WAS FOUND TO BE: serum calcium (corrected to a specific gravity of 1.026) 8.38-10.08 mg. ...
